Power Flushing
Most people disregard powerflushing and believe it to be an unnecessary service to have on your home. This couldn’t be further from the truth.
Especially in conventional (open) systems where sludge is more easily formed this is a great way of reducing heating costs both in the present and in the future. By flushing the system you can prolong the life of your boiler. It will also make radiators more efficient reducing the workload and stress on your boiler. This should reflect in your heating bills.
When having a new boiler the manufacturers ask for the system to be flushed and cleansed and if this work is not undertaken then they will cancel all guarantees on their product. This includes all the big manufacturers such as Worcester-Bosch, Vaillant, Baxi and many more.
FEATURES & BENEFITS
What is a powerflush?
Whilst this is simple question there are varying degrees of answers. (See pricing for various options detailed below). We should start from the most basic form and work our way up.
1 – drain down. – quite simply this involves draining the system and refilling. You should have the chemical replaced please see additions.
2 – chemical flush – this involves adding a cleansing chemical to the system after a partial drain down. This is then left for up to two weeks. The system is then drained and refilled.
3 – extra chemical flush – this involves the use of a stronger chemical. This is added to the system then neutralised and removed via a drain down 3 hours later. During the 3 hours the heating pump must be running. The system is then refilled.
4 – Magnacleanse – this involves the use of large magnetic system. This is a larger version of your Heating system filter installed with any good heating installation. One radiator is removed and flushed manually. Meanwhile chemical is added to the system and the water is pumped round and through the magnets. The magnets collect the magnetic sludge and these are regularly checked and then emptied. After a few hours the system is drained and refilled.
5 – Basic Powerfush. – this is where a radiator is removed and flushed manually. The machine is then connected to the pipes and continues for up to 5 hours, drained down then refilled.
6 – Powerflush – A radiator is removed and the machine connected to the pipework. Chemical is added and then allowed to flow round for 3 hours. After the 3 hours each radiator is then individually flushed by turning off the others and one by one switching between them and allowing 25 minutes per radiator. The system is then emptied and refilled.
7 – magnaflush – Thos option uses the basis of a powerflush but adds the magnetic system to the process. This is a far greater way of cleansing your system.
8 – The works. – this is a comprehensive way of ensuring your system is clean however is split into two category’s.
A – Includes filter
B – no filter included.
Whichever option the process is the same.
- Partial drain down of system
- Adding of chemical cleanser
- Leave for up to two weeks.
- Full Magnaflush of system
- Drain down
- Refill with inhibitor
- Added plastic pipe protector where necessary
